Stockholm

Stockholm Stockholm is the capital of Sweden with about 760,000 inhabitants within the city borders. In Stockholm county about 1,860,000 people live. Stockholm is growing and in 2030 the city is expected to have 900,000 inhabitants, and the county 2,400,000.

To welcome the 150,000 new Stockholmers about 70,000 new dwellings need to be built within the city borders the next 25 years. The Stockholm City Plan, adopted by the city council 1999, points out several City Developments Areas. Many of these are old industrial or harbour sites which are planned to be transformed to multi-purpose urban areas. Some of them are very well located close to the city core and well provided with public transport.

Stockholm has a strategic position in the Baltic Area, in which we can foresee a quick development during the next decades in the new growing economies. Stockholm has a leading position in the telecom and bioscience business.

The Mayor of Stockholm has declared that her goal is that "Stockholm should be the most exciting region of Northern Europe" in 2030.
